Tim Ho Wan Malaysia
The news on Tim Ho Wan Malaysia shutting down came as a shock to me. Who would have thought that this brand that has earned a Michelin star in Hong Kong would come to an end in Malaysia after 3 years? I always think that Malaysia is a food haven, we have all the nice food and popular food chains here. Seems like I took it for granted. When Tim Ho Wan first opened in Malaysia, the queues were insanely long every single day. I had the opportunity to sample their food first hand as their invited blogger. According to an article in TheEdgeMarkets, Texchem, who owns 51% of Dim Sum Delight (the operator of Tim Ho Wan Malaysia) reported that for the financial year ended 31 December 2016 (FY2016), Dim Sum Delight incurred a loss of RM895,642. It is reported that the outlet in Mid Valley and 1 Utama has already ceased operation but many netizens were wondering about the status of its Melaka outlet. As of today, even their Facebook Page is gone. I’m glad I visited Tim Ho Wan when I was in Hong Kong last February. I have a feeling that it costs cheaper in Hong Kong than Malaysia though, which is a surprise. Will confirm this when I write my travelogue. Stay tuned!
