Review: Thai-in Mookata Kepong Awarded as Thai SELECT Restaurant

Sawasdeekaaaaa~~~ I haven’t been able to travel to overseas yet since the pandemic but I felt like I have been transported to Thailand once I stepped into Thai-in Mookata. Thai-in Mookata has many branches in Klang Valley. I first encountered them during Think Thailand Festival. Recently, I visited their Kepong outlet because this is one of the Thai-in Mookata branches that has received Thai SELECT certification.

Thai SELECT

Thai SELECT is a mark of certification awarded by the Ministry of Commerce, the Royal Thai Government, and Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) to guarantee the authentic Thai taste of Thai food products and restaurants as well as hospitality and atmosphere of the restaurants in Thailand and overseas.⁣⁣ The award is a testament to how good the restaurant is and it’s a very prestigious award to the recipient.

Restaurants would need to follow strict guidelines and vetted before they are given the Thai SELECT certificate. There are four categories of certification: Signature, Classic, Casual and Unique.

Thai SELECT Signature: Restaurants that serve authentic Thai food with a taste of premium quality, refined decoration and excellent service
Thai SELECT Classic: Thai Restaurants of excellent quality
Thai SELECT Casual: Good quality Thai food, but have limited services
Thai SELECT Unique: Selected restaurants within Thailand that offer local specialties
Thai SELECT Products: Thai food products made the traditional way

Thai-in Mookata Kepong

A big congratulations to Thai-in Mookata for being awarded the Thai SELECT Casual certification! Looking at the menu, I was surprised to see that it is priced so affordably! Kudos to the team for coming out with such pricing! Don’t believe me? Check out the price and menu below:

Set A for 2-3 person (Price: RM 49.80)
– Cabbage
– Japanese Tofu
– Kangkung
– Glass noodle

Set B for 4-5 person (Price: RM 59.80)

Both sets include unlimited free refills of vegetables and glass noodles! You can choose between their Signature Chicken Soup or Signature Tomyum Soup. They’re equally good, just a matter of preference 🙂 A fragrant piece of lard is swiped on the grilling dome when it has been heated up with charcoal. The use of charcoal grill makes the meat cooked much more evenly. We find that the portion is sufficient but if you find that you’re not full yet, you can always ask for a refill of vege and glass noodles.

Taste wise, I love how fresh the food is! The black pepper pork tastes really amazing too. I would surely add-on this dish the next time I come. When the restaurant is not too busy, you can request the friendly staff to help you cook also. Definitely recommending their top-notch service!

Don’t forget to dip your meat into Thai-in Mookata’s Signature Chilli Sauce because it’s super addictive and tasty. They even made them to sell so you can have it at home too! The best feeling is when we pair the food with a glass of Signature Thai Milk Tea and Thailand Chang Beer!
