Maybelline New York turned 100 officially on 15th May 2015 and this date has been declared as Maybelline Day! Happy birthday, Maybelline!!

In 1915, inspired by his sister Mabel, Thomas L. Williams developed a mail-order lash and brow beautifier called LASH-BROW-INE. And like they said, the rest is history. Since then, Maybelline New York has been creating waves and making an impact on women’s lives, empowering us to make a statement by exploring new looks and flaunting our own creativity and individuality.

The birthday bash for Maybelline New York in Malaysia was graced by local celebrities, fashion and beauty editors, bloggers and fans. All of us were treated to a unique runway show featuring 10 decades of 10 iconic looks to mark the occasion.

Their signature phrase, “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline” was created in 1990, and continues to make an impact on women’s lives even today.

The birthday bash runway show featured Maybelline New York’s 9 decades of iconic looks and one exclusive Future makeup look, created by professional makeup maestro Stevensunny. Each look represents makeup artistry and trends in the past, present and future, made possible with Maybelline New York’s colour cosmetics, which captured the vividness of each decade perfectly. Here are some of the looks that caught my attention:

1920s - Fierce Flapper look

The Future - The Glam Goddess look
The Future – The Glam Goddess look

The Glam Goddess look of the future is inspired by the latest makeup trends from Milan and Italy with consideration to make it wearable and relevant for Asian’s features. It makes full use of a blend of sparkling gold and rich brown tones which contrasts against each other beautifully on Malaysians’ skin tone. Stevensunny creates a mixture of light brown and gold on the center, and darker gradient shading on the sides to give a subtle and yet eye-catching effect that is wearable everyday for Malaysian woman. For this Glam Goddess look, Stevensunny used: Eyes

  • Fashion Brown Sharp Pencil in Brown, RM 24.27
  • Color Tattoo in Bold Gold, RM 21.08
  • Big Eyes Shadow in Copper Gold, RM 48.64
  • Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner in Gold-iation, RM 21.08
  • Color Show Crayon Kohl in Inca Gold, RM 18.97

Cheeks

  • Blush Em’ in I’m Glowy!, RM 31.01

Lips

  • Color Sensational in Rebel Bouquet REB06, RM 31.68

The most jaw dropping piece of the show has got to be the Maybelline Dress by Stevensunny! Admired his creativity of showcasing Maybelline cosmetics on the dress.

Hello beauties and handsomies (I made that up =p)! Here’s the part 2 post of Butterfly Project Beauty Box and it’s about makeup!! If you’ve missed part 1, head here to catch up!

An overview of makeup products in The Butterfly Project Beauty Box

An overview of makeup products in The Butterfly Project Beauty Box

Not sure whether this was a coincidence, but I realized that most of the products I’ve got are in pink tones except the nail color. And since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I might just settle for this look since it’s pretty basic and thus, saves time! Nowadays, I don’t like to take too much time doing makeup because there’s just so much things pending for me to do T_T

Let’s start by introducing and reviewing the products one by one before I show you the outcome of my 2015 look, shall we?

  1. Koji Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in Deep Black

Koji Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in Deep Black

I was a bit worried to review liquid eyeliner because I suck in drawing eyeliner #majorfail but luckily Koji Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner is super easy to apply due to the slim brush head, making it easier to control. I compared it with the liquid eyeliner that I have and Dolly Wink’s is proven to have a slimmer and sharper tip to allow better precision. Plus, it’s highly pigmented so I don’t need to draw a few times for the color to come out. It’s extra long lasting and the last record was 6 hours before I removed it myself. *DOUBLE THUMBS UP*

    Price: RM 55.90
Where to buy: Sasa Malaysia outlets

  2. Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop Lip Balm in Pink Shock

The color name, Pink Shock gave me a shock (pun intended). I left a huge sigh of relief when I saw that the color came out quite sheer and natural though. Totally love the description at the back of the packaging that says – Adult strength care for baby soft lips in vibrant neon colors. Shea butter and Vitamin E formula keeps my lips moisturized for up to 8 hours!

Brownie points – Comes in watermelon flavor!

    Price: RM 14.90
Where to buy: Major pharmacies nationwide

  3. Collection Cosmetics Hotlights Lipgloss

    Collection Cosmetics Hotlights Lipgloss

Just when I thought that this would be just another lip gloss, Collection Cosmetics Hotlights Lipgloss has proved me wrong in every way. First, it came with a horizontal mirror at the side of the lip gloss tube and second, but most mind blown is – IT CAME WITH LIGHTS!

I gasped when I first discovered the lights LOL! Touching up is now super duper convenient considering there are some mall toilets nowadays that are badly lit.

It made me wonder whether how long the battery can last since there’s no power switch to control when I want it to be on and off. It just intelligently switches off when I fasten the applicator back to the tube.

    Price: RM 24.90
Where to buy: Selected Watsons and F Block outlets

  4. Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish (004 – Berry Sexy)

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish comes in 48 trendsetting shades and the one I’ve gotten is called Berry Sexy (woohoo!). These Official Nail Color of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York are chip free and quick drying. Kudos to Maybelline for making them Formaldehyde, DBP and Toluene free! It glides easily and the best thing is, it will not turn patchy even if I swipe a few times on the same area!

    Price: RM 9.90
Where to buy: Selected Watsons and Guardian

Ta-dah!! So here’s the outcome of my 2015 Less is More Makeup Look.
Do you like it? In the first photo, I only applied Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Pop Lip Balm in Pink Shock onto my lips while in the second photo, I applied Collection Cosmetics Hotlights Lipgloss (Sparkle) on top of the lip balm. Which one do you like more?
