There are 3 ways to get from Hong Kong International Airport to city i.e. Airport bus, Hong Kong Airport Express, and taxi.

Cheapest Way from HK Airport to City

However, the most straightforward and budget-friendly aka cheapest way from HK Airport to City is to take the Airport Bus. For my case, I was heading to Hello Inn located at Tsim Tsa Tsui. Other means of transportation would require me to switch to another transport before I can reach Hello Inn. Plus, it also costs a lot more. Here’s an estimate comparison:
  • Airport bus to Tsim Tsa Tsui – HKD 33
  • Hong Kong Airport Express train to Kowloon (no direct line to Tsim Tsa Tsui) – HKD 90 (do note that they provide cheaper rates for groups of 2,3, and 4 person) Special deal: Get Airport Express Train Ticket for only HKD 41 HERE
  • Taxi/cab to Tsim Tsa Tsui – HKD 230
In order to get to the bus station (Airport Ground Transportation Centre), exit the arrival hall and turn right. When you see Airport Express entrance in front of you, turn right again. On our way out, we stopped by at the Tourist Services counter near Airport Express to get our Octopus Card.

You can pay by cash for airport bus fare, but you have to prepare exact amount in HKD. Balance will not be refunded.
  1. Pay using pre-paid Octopus Card
  2. Buy a single journey ticket from the Customer Service Centre at Airport Ground Transportation Centre.
  3. (THE CHEAPEST WAY) Buy a Cityflyer pre-paid return ticket from the Customer Service Centre at Airport Ground Transportation Centre. We took Airport bus A21 (Hung Hom MTR) with covers Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan, Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom for only HKD 33 per person. There are luggage racks for you to put your luggage bags on. At the front part of the bus, the next station name will be displayed. Remember to press the bell before your stop or the bus driver might not stop. We got off at Tsim Sha Tsui Cameron Road after riding the bus for 1 hour. Do note that these airport buses operate daily from 6am – 12am only. After midnight, you will have to take Overnight “N” route buses. Check out Citybus website to get full detail on the routes and service areas. If you would want to know which bus number goes directly to your hotel, refer this list prepared by them: https://www.bravobus.com.hk/routes/airport-bus/hotel/index.aspx?intLangID=1 In order to take the Airport Bus from city to Hong Kong International Airport, you should be able to find the bus station across the road from where you alighted earlier on.
